🥋 Path 1: New to PMP Prep
Build Your Foundation the Right Way
Introduction: Why This Matters
If you are new to PMP preparation, resist the urge to jump into full practice exams. You must first build structured understanding. Follow this sequence.
Purpose and Objectives
Primary Purpose: Help you move from basic understanding to exam-ready judgment using a proven learning sequence.
Key Objectives:
- Build a strong foundation in the 49 processes and supporting tools.
- Shift from learning content to thinking in PMP domains and scenarios.
- Develop confidence in calculations, Agile, and Hybrid approaches.
- Train judgment through scenario-based decision practice.
- Condition for exam day using strategy and challenge-style practice.
Overview
This roadmap is broken into five phases. Each phase builds the foundation you need for the next.
- Phase 1: Build Core Knowledge (Foundation First)
- Phase 2: Shift to Exam Structure (Domains and Thinking)
- Phase 3: Master Calculations and Agile
- Phase 4: Develop Scenario Judgment
- Phase 5: Exam Strategy and Final Conditioning
Sensei Tip : Most candidates fail because they rush into practice exams without building understanding. Follow the sequence and your accuracy will rise faster.
Phase 1: Build Core Knowledge (Foundation First)
Start with:
- Section 2: The 49 Scrolls of Project Mastery (49 Processes)
- Section 3: PMP Tools and Techniques
Purpose: Understand what each process does, why it exists, and how tools support decision-making.
- Do not memorize inputs and outputs mechanically.
- Focus on flow and intent.
After completing Sections 2 and 3
➡ Go to Resources → 49 Processes – Practice Questions
This reinforces understanding before moving forward.
Phase 2: Shift to Exam Structure (Domains and Thinking)
Next, study:
- Section 4: The Domains of PMP Mastery
This is where exam thinking begins. Understand how People, Process, and Business Environment drive scenario-based questions.
After Section 4
➡ Go to Resources → Domains – Practice Questions
You are now training your judgment within the exam framework.
Phase 3: Master Calculations and Agile
Now complete:
- Section 5: PMP Calculations and Tools
- Section 6: Agile and Hybrid
After Section 5
➡ Practice Calculations – Practice Questions
After Section 6
➡ Take Practice Test 1
Agile and Hybrid are heavily tested. Make sure you are comfortable with servant leadership, adaptive planning, and value delivery.
Phase 4: Develop Scenario Judgment
Now move to: Section 7: Scenario-Based Training
This is where most candidates fail if skipped. Practice reading situations and identifying:
- What should the project manager do first?
- What should they do next?
- What is the most proactive response?
Then take
➡ Practice Test 2
Phase 5: Exam Strategy and Final Conditioning
Complete:
- Section 8: PMP Exam Strategy and Mindset
Then attempt:
- ➡ Flash Mastery Challenge
- ➡ Sudden Death Challenge
- ➡ Practice Test 3
At this stage, you are training endurance and mental clarity. Only after scoring consistently above your target range should you schedule your exam.
Exam Alert : If you are failing scenario questions, the fix is rarely “more memorization.” The fix is practice in judgment: first, next, and most proactive.
Next Step
If you have already started studying and need a sharper path based on what you struggle with most, go to Path 2: Focused Sharpening Roadmap.
